Nanomedicine : What is a Smart Pill ?

What is Nanomedicine/ Nanotechnology in Medicine ?

Nanomedicine is a scientific usage of nanotechnologies. Nanomedicine varies from the clinical properties of nanotechnology and biological systems to nano-electronic biosensors and potential future implementations of molecular nanotechnology, such as biological machines. Key problems for nanomedicine include recognizing the concerns of risk and the ecological consequences of nanoscale substances.

Nanomedicine plans to offer a versatile collection of testing methods and clinically relevant instruments in the immediate future. The National Nanotechnology Initiative plans innovative industrial developments in the pharma industry that could involve automated drug delivery technologies, novel treatments and in vivo imaging.

What is Smart Pill?

The concept of the smart pill applies to any medication that can administer or monitor the release of the drug without the individual needing to do anything after the initial sip. Such pills should be very successful in the immediate future which can contribute to a major shift in the field of medication and also in the case of surgery.

What are the various types of Smart pills built till now?

PillCam

This is the first device produced in 2001. It has a built-in camera that captures images as it moves around the body. It has been in effect since 2008 has been implemented in nearly 2 million operations.

Dose Tracking Pills

The pills includes a sensor that can transmit signals to a patient's patch. This patch inturn helps monitor all the details in an app. This could be easily shared with the doctor. This can help to determine the right dose and absorption of medications. It would prove to be very useful for patients to enjoy the positive effects of the treatment with tracked medications.

Vibrant Capsules

As the name suggests, these capsules will undergo vibrations as they are inserted into the body and aid the contraction of the muscle that is helpful for digestion. They 're going to help people get rid of laxatives and save people from constipation

Atmo-gas Capsule

This capsule has a membrane around it that is porous in nature and is sensitive to gases. The concentration of oxygen, hydrogen and carbon dioxide can be detected by it. Oxygen concentrations help determine the location of the device, and hydrogen and carbon dioxide help detect the condition of the microflora of the intestine.

Smart Sensor Capsule

This capsule has been constructed by the MIT. It has a Y shaped head, and it can also be connected to Bluetooth. The compartments can be filled with medicines and can be controlled for release from outside. It also detects vital signs of diagnosis. The Y form unfolds when triggered from outside.

Smart pills are the future and we should be well informed about it. Share will your family and friend to update them about this upcoming revolution.
