The poles are changing?
Experts claim that one of the factors for the weakening of magnetic field might indicate an impending reversal, where the North Pole and the South Pole swap.

Portion of the earth's magnetic field is collapsing, and nobody really appears to know why. Satellite measurements, which researchers have considered, has demonstrated a rather troubling advancement that the magnetic field is destabilising between Africa and South America. Experts claim that the location known as the South Atlantic Anomaly has vastly expanded over the last few years.
What's going to happen?
The magnetic field of the earth is produced by movement patterns within the molten iron core of the earth. This begins to emerge and goes as far as providing a shield for the earth in space and protecting life from the damaging radiation of the sun.
The reversal may mean a shift in how the magnetic field safeguards the earth from dangerous cosmic radiation as well as from space winds. In-operational satellites could cause substantial disturbances to communication systems around the world, including telecommunications networks and mobile phones. Experts say that spacecraft passing through the area are far more likely to encounter technological misfires.
The ESA reveals that the weakening effect of the poles eloquently indicates a pole reversal phenomenon and claims that this has happened before.
Okay, this is pretty bad, so we're not going to want to be around when this actually occurs.
